Dining Room updates (& wishing for Spring!)

I don’t know about y’all, but I am seriously ready for some less-rainy-more-sunny-spring-type of days…

The weather has gotten to me this week. I have started a mental countdown to warmer and sunnier days ahead, and now that 2015 has officially arrived, I’m feeling just one step closer to the sunshine (or even just a little less rain would do!)

With all the Pacific Northwest gray skies keeping us inside so much, what is a DIY-er to do?

Work on a dining room makeover of course!

You may remember that I omitted my dining room from the recent first-floor home tour…Handy Hubby and I have been diligently working on this space for the last couple of weeks. This room has undergone several phases of change, starting with paint about a year ago, and most recently an addition of a window seat bench.

Here is a reminder of what it looked like before:

Dining RoomHere are a couple of “in-progress” photos (please excuse the hoard of tools, paint cans, and other miscellaneous junk):

The projects we have undertaken to date are (not all are pictured above, of course):

  • Removed the carpet, and replaced with wide-plank laminate flooring
  • Replaced the baseboards with white 5 1/4″ versions
  • Built a window seat bench
  • Added horizontal plank wainscoting
  • Built a buffet table (just completed this week!)
  • Hung curtains
  • Bought a $20 pedestal table from the ReStore and refinished it

As for the after shots, you are going to have to stay tuned for a little bit longer. I don’t want to show any more photos until it is complete…Just a couple more nights of painting after my Childproofing Consultant Team members/Minions have gone to sleep!

Meanwhile, here is a small preview of the buffet we built:

buffet buildAll this beauty needs now is a coat of stain/paint, and it will be all shiny, new, and ready for its close-up! In case you are wondering, this build is based on the DIY Turned Leg Buffet Table plan located over at Shanty-2-Chic. I modified their plan slightly by using bed legs that I thrifted for $15 each (the front legs).

Stay tuned for the Dining Room Makeover Reveal, coming soon! I hope 2015 is going well for everyone so far!
